SH2-101 — A Tulip Amongst the Chaos
Sh2-101, better known as the Tulip Nebula, is an emission nebula in Cygnus. Its name comes easily enough from the bright, curved bloom-like structure near the center, but the surrounding field is anything but simple. The Tulip sits in a crowded region of the Milky Way, surrounded by glowing hydrogen, darker lanes of dust, and a dense starfield that gives the whole frame a sense of motion and turbulence.
For this version, I wanted the nebula to read as the flower without isolating it from the environment that makes it interesting. The brighter folds form the “tulip,” while the surrounding gas and dust create the chaos around it — not as background filler, but as part of the story of the region.
The processing goal was to keep the structure clear, the color controlled, and the field active without letting the stars or surrounding nebulosity overpower the main subject.
