This dataset captures IC 1396, commonly known as the Elephant's Trunk Nebula, a distinctive emission nebula in the constellation Cepheus. The data consists of 52 frames taken through an Optolong L-Enhance filter, each with a 180-second exposure, totaling 2.6 hours of integration time. All frames were acquired on July 8, 2026, using a Redcat 51 telescope paired with a ZWO ASI585MC Air camera mounted on a Sky-Watcher Star Adventurer GTI tracking mount.
The L-Enhance dual-band filter isolates hydrogen-alpha and oxygen-III wavelengths, making it well-suited for capturing the nebular structure and ionized gas regions that define this object's characteristic trunk-like appearance. The dataset is released under a CC0 1.0 Universal license, placing it in the public domain with no copyright restrictions, and is available as a free download for processing, research, or educational purposes.
