Sh2-133 — Van Gogh
Set against the rich star fields of Cepheus, Sh2-133 is a sprawling emission region surrounded by layers of faint dust and nebulosity. Hydrogen-alpha emission forms the sweeping red arc through the field, while the contrasting blue reflection nebula and muted clouds of interstellar dust give the scene an unusually broad palette.
This image was processed first as a complete LRGB composition, using the luminance data to strengthen the structure and reveal the subtler background nebulosity. Hydrogen-alpha was then added as a final enhancement rather than used to define the original color palette, allowing the red emission to emerge while preserving the blues, dusty browns, and quieter colors throughout the field.
The result reminded me less of a traditional nebula portrait and more of paint swept across a canvas — broad strokes of red, blue, teal and ochre scattered among thousands of stars.
Hence the title:
Sh2-133 — Van Gogh
The universe apparently had a post-impressionist period. 😁
