Descripción
The closest peculiar galaxy to Earth at ~12 million light-years, and the southern hemisphere's most accessible look at galactic-scale chaos. Cen A is what happens when an elliptical galaxy swallows a spiral: the spiral's gas and dust got compressed and disrupted into the warped dust lane cutting across the bulge. The pink-red filaments threading through that dust lane are Hα emission from active star-forming regions where the merger triggered new star birth. A supermassive black hole at the centre drives radio jets that extend far beyond the visible galaxy.

Thanks I have quite a few data sets waiting but the ones I have processed have been excellent. I do not yet put any iimage on line as I have had many health issues and difficulties with software and hardware. I am a 73 year old learner with defective colour vision and barely 3 months using PixInsight and Photoshop cc so it is as steep for me as it is difficult to see stars in my letterbox of Bortle 7 city sky…

This was a fun image to process, especially since I had never worked with the Askar D2 filters before. One thing to note is that the three files are not quite star-aligned correctly, so be sure to do that first before processing these data yourself.

Great data. I am a PixInsight newbie but have 6 months of astrophotography experience courtesy of Seestar. NGC 5128, better known as Centaurus A, is captured in this 14.8-hour dataset combining narrowband and broadband imaging. The acquisition spans from mid-March to late April 2026, using a Sky-Watcher 200PDS telescope paired with a ZWO ASI585MC Air camera on an EQ6 Pro mount. The data includes 109 frames through an Antlia ALP-T filter at 300 seconds each, plus 171 unfiltered frames at 120 seconds, revealing both hydrogen-alpha detail and broader spectral information of this peculiar galaxy. This active galaxy, distinguished by its prominent dust lane and powerful radio jets, lies approximately 13 million light-years away in the southern constellation Centaurus. The dataset is available as a free download under CC BY-NC 4.0, permitting copy, modification and redistribution for non-commercial purposes.
