Description

From the depths of Lonely Mountain, Smaug rises.

Disturbed and enraged, the great dragon takes flight—his fiery form stretching across the void as he searches for the thief who dared disturb his hoard. In this narrowband view of Sh2-114, glowing filaments of ionized hydrogen trace out a shape strikingly reminiscent of a dragon in motion, wings unfurled as if mid-hunt.

Captured under Bortle 4 skies, this emission nebula lies within Cygnus, where stellar winds and radiation sculpt vast clouds of gas into intricate, almost mythical forms.

Processed from Astrophotomarket.com data using a custom Ha-anchored palette. I extracted a starless luminance layer and blended it back in to lift the faint structure from the darkness. This brings forward the intricate filaments of Sh2-114 while maintaining the warm, balanced glow that defines the scene.
