Messier 17 (Omega Nebula) is one of the brightest and most massive star-forming regions in our galaxy, located about 5,500 light-years away in Sagittarius. It spans roughly 15 light-years in diameter and glows with ionized hydrogen gas sculpted by stellar winds and radiation.
